The Bihar State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is responsible for conducting the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMSS) and the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) in the state of Bihar. These exams are conducted to identify and support talented students who require financial assistance to continue their education.
The NMMSS exam is conducted for students
studying in class VIII, while the NTSE exam is conducted for students studying
in class X. The primary objective of these exams is to provide scholarships to
meritorious students from economically weaker sections of the society.
The NMMSS exam is conducted in two stages
– Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 involves a written examination comprising of
questions based on General Mental Ability Test (GMAT) and Scholastic Aptitude
Test (SAT). Students who clear the Stage 1 examination are eligible to appear
for the Stage 2 examination which is conducted by the National Council of
Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The scholarship amount awarded under
the NMMSS scheme is Rs. 12,000 per annum.
On the other hand, the NTSE exam is conducted
in two stages – Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 involves a written examination
comprising of questions based on Mental Ability Test (MAT), Language Test (LT)
and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Students who clear the Stage 1 examination
are eligible to appear for the Stage 2 examination which is conducted by the
NCERT. The scholarship amount awarded under the NTSE scheme is Rs. 1250 per
month for class XI and XII, and Rs. 2000 per month for undergraduate and
postgraduate courses.
In order to apply for these exams,
students need to contact their respective schools as the application process is
conducted through schools only. The schools will provide the application forms
and assist the students with the registration process.
